Using Bright Colours in your Decor!

Interior design is becoming more and more popular (perhaps due to the influx of talented interior design bloggers?) these days, and more and more people are striving for more within their homes. People seem to have gotten monochrome down, figured out simplicity and got the hang of natural earthy tones - but one thing that's almost universally struggled with when attempting a brand new decor scheme is the bright colours! Why, you ask? Who knows! Perhaps it's because it's so difficult to make bright colours complement each other; perhaps it's a lack of confidence, or perhaps it's just not knowing how to make it work full stop. Well, today we're going to give you some guidance to help you nail that brightly coloured decor. Rainbow homes, here we come!

People seem to have gotten monochrome down, figured out simplicity and got the hang of natural earthy tones – but one thing that’s almost universally struggled with when attempting a brand new decor scheme is the bright colours! Why, you ask? Who knows! Perhaps it’s because it’s so difficult to make bright colours complement each other; perhaps it’s a lack of confidence, or perhaps it’s just not knowing how to make it work full stop. Well, today we’re going to give you some guidance to help you nail that brightly coloured decor. Rainbow homes, here we come!

Using colour in your decor

Accessories

One of the simplest ways to incorporate colour into your decorative scheme is with accessories; cushions, throws, decorative art on the walls and various other bits and pieces can inject some brightness, fun and colour into your home without it feeling over the top and just a little too much. This works especially well in kitchens and bathrooms, where you’ll naturally have quite a few accessories to work with anyway, but can easily be achieved in all of your other rooms as well.

Feature Wall

A feature wall is a pretty common way to add in some colour to your rooms, and is fantastic for adding in a bit of colour to an otherwise neutral colour scheme. You can achieve your feature wall however you want; whether with paint, wallpaper or wall stickers if you fancy – we’ve even seen it done with glitter paint! You can also use your feature wall as a way in to brighter colour all around. See how you go with one wall bright, and then decide if you want to add in a little more.

Lesser Used Rooms

Do a trial run in rooms that you don’t use as often. Perhaps the downstairs toilet or maybe your hallway. You can see if you like it in a room that won’t cause you too much inconvenience to decorate; if you do – great! If not, then it’s not too much of a problem to put it back to how you liked it before. These rooms also tend to be smaller spaces, as well, so you won’t have to worry too much about it taking forever to do.

Just go for it!

If you’re feeling brave, then just go for it! Get your paint and brushes out and get going on your walls. Try and keep any extra bits in your room simple if you’re going to do this; keep accessories to a minimum and maybe make them a more neutral tone, and avoid loud patterns that might clash with your chosen colour. Other than that, just have fun and get it done!
