Things to do on a Sunday: Cleaning your Garage

Sundays are traditionally a day of rest, so quite often we find ourselves with a day off work, and nothing particular that needs doing. Why not make use of these otherwise empty days to work on some home improvement, smartening up the house and giving it a good clean?

Sundays are traditionally a day of rest, so quite often we find ourselves with a day off work, and nothing particular that needs doing. Why not make use of these otherwise empty days to work on some home improvement, smartening up the house and giving it a good clean?

Here are some great garage cleaning tips to follow for a sparkling clean garage, just in one Sunday!

Things to do on a Sunday: Cleaning the garage

Give it a good clear out
The first thing to do is get rid of all the stuff you’ve been hoarding. This will probably take a few hours, but it’s definitely worth doing! Get everything out, and separate it into three piles: keep, donate/sell and throw away. Once you’ve got your piles arranged, sort the things accordingly. The stuff you’re keeping should only be stuff you actually need, and use regularly. Leave the “just in case” stuff in the throw away pile.

Sweep, wash and clean
When you’ve got rid of the unnecessary extras crowding up your garage space, it’ll be much easier to get to the areas that need a little cleaning. Give your floor a good sweep, dust down any cobwebs and any permanent fixtures that are in your garage, and wash the floor if you have tiles or similar. Once everything is dusted over and is nice and clean, your garage will feel much nicer!

Consider a fresh lick of paint
If you feel like your garage is still looking a bit worse for wear after your clean out and wash, then consider painting the walls. If you use your garage predominantly as storage, then a simple white paint will do, but if you use it as an extra room, consider a more colourful tone.

Transform it into an extra room
If you don’t have a car, or prefer parking outside, then why not consider transforming your garage into an extra room, perhaps for the children to play in? Remove all the tools and similar, or perhaps give them their own corner; give the walls a bright paint and add in some cosy furniture and some fun things to do — your little ones, or you, now have a great room for fun and relaxing without taking up any valuable household space.
