Stop Wasting Your Time!

How often are you looking for something online, and just wishing that there were fewer listings? There are listings for houses, listings for product purchases, listings to find a job… is there any end?

How often are you looking for something online, and just wishing that there were fewer listings? There are listings for houses, listings for product purchases, listings to find a job… is there any end?

Well, yes, actually. The end is in sight! No more will you have to waste your time spending hours trawling through listings to find exactly what you want. These days, things should come to you.

The end of listings?

Considering a large portion of the Internet is based on listings, it’s a bold statement to claim that they might be coming to their end. The fact of the matter is, people no longer have time to go through hundreds of listings finding what they’re looking for; they’d rather fill in a few details, and let what they’re looking for come to them. This is the direction the Internet is headed.

Take job hunting, as an example. Whether you’re unemployed and looking for a job, or simply looking to move into a new position, in the past it’s been all about looking through vacancy listings and applying to positions. Not so much anymore! Take Reed, or Monster job boards in the UK; they’re two of the largest markets for finding new jobs, and increasingly employers and recruitment agents are approaching those who would previously have been the applicants.

How, you ask? The applicant uploads their CV, the employers/recruitment consultants notice them, and then initiate contact. No time wasted, no listings scrolled through.

A similar process is occurring in the Real Estate industry. Increasingly, the websites that properties are advertised on are doing all the work. The clients head to the advertisement websites; e.g. Homelight, or Redfin, fill in their details and their property search parameters, and then emails notify them when properties that suit their requirements are added to the website.

Again, there’s no listings to be trawled through, and you aren’t wasting your valuable time.

So, what say you? We think the days of listing being the primary form of Internet browsing are coming to an end. Convenience is key, and time saving is paramount. In the long run, the online world seems to be leaning more towards going to you, rather than you going to them — and this can only be a good thing.
