Leaving Home for the First Time

For many of us, the first time we move out of our family homes is like a right of passage; the first hint of fledgling independence, and the first time we are properly standing on our own two feet. Whether you’re moving just down the road, or to the other end of the country, moving out on your own is a big deal, and it’s something most of us do at one point or another!

Leaving Home for the First Time

Picture the scene, you’ve just loaded the last packed box onto your moving van (that you’ve spent all day loading up and moving to your new place — who knew you still had so much stuff even after spending weeks clearing out your childhood bedroom?) and you’re getting ready to say goodbye. It’s emotional saying goodbye to your family, however temporary the sentiment is, but the excitement far outweighs the sadness!

For many people the first time they leave their family home is when they’re going to university, and this was the case for me. I was a bit older than your usual fledgling university student, being 21 at the time rather than 18, but leaving my family home for the first time was still emotional! There was very little packing, however, and no van loading at all — I left most of my stuff at my family home (where I’m sorry to say that most of it still is!), stuffed everything I could fit in a tiny suitcase and said by goodbyes to my mum and siblings.

I was moving from near London up to Liverpool to study History at university. I’d visited the city before choosing to study there and fallen in love with it (there’s few places in the UK so rich in history, culture and opportunity) — so thought it was as good a place as any to live! Although I’m no longer studying, I still live here and still love it!

When choosing where I was going to move to upon leaving my family home, I decided to be brave and really take a leap into the unknown. Although it was a risk, it paid off for me and I’m so glad I made the decision to move here. It’s pretty much the city of my dreams and I’d recommend that everyone moves to the place they really want to live if that’s what’s going to make them happy.

I’m currently looking for a new place to move into; and since the city has such a wide variety of gorgeous property, I’m excited for the future.
