Find a Home in Sao Paulo

Sao Paulo, an exceptionally vibrant city and the heart of Brazil's financial centre, is definitely a city to consider moving to if you're looking for something a little more from your life. The city was founded in 1554 by Jesuit priests, and has seen a great deal of history moving forwards through the centuries. Although Sao Paulo is, by anyone's standards, an enormous city, it does come with the usual accommodation problems as experienced anywhere else. Of course, we're here with some local tips to help you find a great home in Sao Paulo.

Sao Paulo, an exceptionally vibrant city and the heart of Brazil’s financial centre, is definitely a city to consider moving to if you’re looking for something a little more from your life. The city was founded in 1554 by Jesuit priests, and has seen a great deal of history moving forwards through the centuries. Although Sao Paulo is, by anyone’s standards, an enormous city, it does come with the usual accommodation problems as experienced anywhere else. Of course, we’re here with some local tips to help you find a great home in Sao Paulo.

Find a home in Sao Paulo

With any new place, the rental and purchase process is going to be different; but whichever process you choose to go through, the way you find your home is going to amount to pretty much the same thing. One important thing to remember though, is that prices in Sao Paulo are probably going to be higher than you expect them to be – keep this in mind for both property prices, and the prices of your household contents!

Sao Paulo is a huge city, so paying close attention to the areas you’d like to live in is essential to ensuring you find the best possible property for your own needs. Other home hunters in the city have stated that even in a relatively small part of the city, they saw the entire spectrum of property on offer in the city!

So, what can you do to ensure you’re finding the best property for you?

  • Don’t stick with the first estate agent you speak to – when you’re looking for property in a new city, local knowledge and connections are going to be essential to you, but if you feel the agent you’ve spoken to isn’t going what you need, don’t be afraid to switch!
  • Try and have a decent understanding of at least the language basics prior to looking for your home. Many agents will have people who speak English working with them, but you can’t guarantee that English or any other language will definitely be spoken by the people you need to communicate with.
  • Decide where in the city you’d like to live, and visit it! Since the city is so large, one area is going to differ vastly from another, and it’s important you’ve got experience of the area you want to move to. Likewise with the type of property you’re thinking of renting; view a few, and make a decision once you’ve seen everything that’s within your budget!
  • Get in there quickly. Sao Paulo landlords can only consider one offer at a time, so you could find yourself missing out on a great property because you haven’t acted fast enough.

Another important thing to remember if you’re renting is that you’ll quite possibly require a guarantor. Get this sorted ahead of time to avoid unnecessary fuss and stress later on down the line – moving is hard enough as it is!
