Is there anything more off putting than having to trawl through endless listings when trying to find your new home?

Well, yes but it’s definitely up there! Hear us out…

If you are trying to find a new property and want to avoid searching through thousands of irrelevant listings, then keep on reading.

Do your research

This is especially relevant if you’re looking to move to whole different area, or even a different type of property. If you’re thinking of making the move to a different city, or even a different State, do plenty of research before you start searching for a new home.

If it’s possible for you to visit your desired destination, do so. Get plenty of hands on experience, and make sure that the place you’re looking to move to is definitely the place you have in mind.

Know what you want

Take a couple of days before you head into your Internet search to sit down and brainstorm what you’re looking for in your new home.

  • Do you want a house, or an apartment?
  • What area would you like to live in?
  • Do you want room to grow as a family, or are you looking to downsize?
  • Do you want to be close to particular schools, or amenities?

Making a quick note of the things you’re not willing to compromise on, and those that you’re open to compromising, will really help you narrow your search when you come to starting the hunt for a new home.

Sign up for alerts

Most home portal and Real Estate websites will let you perform a search, narrow your search parameters, save said search and then sign up for alerts when a property that fits your interests becomes available.

We can’t stress just how much time this can save you.

Say you’re using Homelight, or Redfin; you do your search just once, save it, sign up for alerts and then all you have to do is check your emails and see what they send over to you.

Opt in to information

Often, Real Estate Agents will have information leaflets and marketing emails sent out to their mailing lists. These could include information about properties that might be perfect for your needs.

If you get the option when browsing a website to sign up to their newsletter, then do so! You never know what helpful information might land in your inbox the next time they’re sending out their newsletter.
