Selling a property can be incredibly stressful, but there are always steps you can take to make it easier on yourself and any professionals that are helping you out! Follow these ten top tips to help you get your home ready to sell quickly and simply!

10 Top Tips for Selling Your Home

  1. Do a bit of research ahead of time
Before you actually put your home on the market, do a bit of research and see what other properties that are similar to yours in and around the same area are selling for. This will give you an idea (before you have your property valued professionally) of what you could ask for your home.
  2. Enlist the professionals
Although you can sell your home on your own, it’s not easy! Hiring professionals to help you out (photographer, Real Estate Agent, surveyor, etc) will make your job a lot easier and probably inspire more trust in your buyer.
  3. Give it a clear out, a clean up, and a fix up
Many people make the mistake of not having a property prepared enough when they have people in to take photos, or to come and view it. Make sure you’ve organised your belongings and had a good clear out ahead of time so there’s not lots of unnecessary clutter creating a mess. Give your home a thorough clean and take care of any repairs necessary.
  4. Make sure your home is well advertised
If no one knows your home is up for sale, no one can buy it! Make sure your property is well advertised so that more people know it’s being sold, and you can get a few more viewings under your best. Never underestimate the power of advertising!
  5. Be thorough
When you’re going through the details of your home, include as many as possible. Size of rooms and windows, the age and status of the property, the size of the garden and so on. Be as thorough as you can.
  6. Take lots of photographs
Take plenty of photos to try and show your property in the best light if you can’t afford to have a professional take care of this for you.
  7. Better yet, have it done professionally!
But if you can, it’s best to hire someone who understands angles, lighting and everything else that goes with taking a fantastic picture.
  8. Don’t neglect the garden…
Gardens are a big part of any home and forgetting to ensure they’re well maintained and looked after can be a huge negative when it comes to selling your home. Ensure you’ve given your garden a spruce up before viewings begin and you’re golden.
  9. … or the outside of your home
On that note, don’t forget the front of your home either! Clean up your windows, tidy up your front garden and give your front door a lick of paint if needed. You’ll be glad of it later!
  10. Allow other people to imagine themselves in your home
Having your home as clean and simple as possible will allow potential buyers to imagine themselves living there, giving a better chance of them wanting to make an offer. Following these steps will help you do exactly that!
