Things that everyone needs to consider:
There are a few things that we recommend everyone consider when moving to a big city, whether that’s just down the road from you, or in a completely new country. These things are:

  • Your budget
Your budget will determine the type of accommodation you can afford, where you can afford to live, and how much money you’ll have left over to live in your brand new city.
  • Your non-negotiables
These are the things that you’re not willing to compromise on, and that you must have in any home you consider. This could include your own bathroom, distance to the city centre, roommates and so on. Likewise, you also need to consider:
  • What you’ll compromise on
There will be things that you’ll need to compromise on in any city, given the competition for properties. You’ll need to figure out what these are ahead of time. Make sure you’re at least a little bit flexible.
  • Your paperwork, a deposit and a guarantor
Many landlords will require you have a down payment for the property, provide the details of a guarantor and have all of your paperwork (finances, identity and often references) to hand immediately. You’ll need to sort this before approaching people about properties, often.

So, Belfast in particular. As with any other city properties are in high demand for people looking to work and live in the city. As a result of this prices are high and you could end up paying through the nose for a property that’s a little bit smaller than you’d prefer. To ensure you’re getting the right sort of help, the best deal possible and that you have the best chance of getting a property you truly love, look into working alongside an experienced Belfast based Real Estate Agent, such as Rea Estates, based in the heart of Belfast City Centre.

The best tips we can give you is to make sure that you’re prepared, know what you want and what you’re willing to let go for the sake of a lovely property, and consider sharing with someone else! Good luck.
