The Perfect Home: The City Apartment

Everyone’s idea of the perfect home is different, for some its a house in the country, for some it’s the penthouse of a skyscraper, and for others its a simple terraced house in a cul-de-sac. Over the next couple of weeks we’re going to be talking about our dream homes, and maybe giving you some inspiration along the way!

The Perfect Home: The City Apartment

The first home we’re going to be talking about is the city apartment. The city apartment is a dream home for many, and certainly a convenient place to live for most!

No matter the city you call home (for me, it’s Liverpool in the UK — beautiful), living right at the centre will always hold a certain kind of magic that nowhere else does. Being right by the iconic buildings that everyone recognises, being a part of the local nightlife, working in the city, there’s nothing quite like it. But what about the home itself?

My dream city apartment would be just the right size; nothing too big, but not so tiny as to feel claustrophobic. Two bedrooms would be my ideal, one for me, and one to use as an office. Ideally, it’d have an en-suite bathroom, but I’d be willing to compromise there!

As for the kitchen; I love cooking, so having a bigger kitchen is ideal. Maybe a kitchen/dining room combination, with room for a table. Something with plenty of room, and lots of storage!

I’m a fan of open, airy spaces, and this is what I look for in a bedroom. Large rooms with big windows are ideal, letting in a lot of light and giving the illusion of a much bigger space than an apartment in the city can usually offer.

Bedrooms with larger windows and plenty of space to fit furniture without feeling cluttered are perfect. This style embodies that perfectly; although I’d have opened the blinds a little!

My thoughts on living rooms are similar, although I would like the room to have the ability to feel very cozy and warm, too. Apartments lack that snuggled feeling that cottages can have, but recreating that with a blanket and a couple of candles wouldn’t be too difficult!

Overall, I’d say my perfect city apartment home would have plenty of space, lots of light and big windows. I wouldn’t say no to an en-suite, but I’d be willing to let it go if I found a place that was perfect otherwise.
