Decorating in Tiny Homes

There's been a real movement towards tiny homes and smaller spaces in recent years, with some of these being truly tiny. Living in small loft apartments and RVs isn't unheard of, and even the smallest space needs a little touch of decoration to allow you to call it your home without sacrificing the little space that you have.

There’s been a real movement towards tiny homes and smaller spaces in recent years, with some of these being truly tiny. Living in small loft apartments and RVs isn’t unheard of, and even the smallest space needs a little touch of decoration to allow you to call it your home without sacrificing the little space that you have.

Today, we’re going to be talking through some tips and ideas to help you decorate your small home and make it amazing without letting go of the small space you’ve got, or the cozy feel of your tiny home.

Decorating in Tiny Homes

Use Lighter Colours to Maximise Space
If you’re living in a tiny home, you’re not going to have a whole lot of space, so maximising what you do have is important. Make use of light colours to help your rooms feel larger and give the illusion of more space to prevent feeling stifled. White, cream and pastel colours are perfect for this!

Don’t overdo the fabric and textures
You might feel differently, but for us, too many fabrics and textures can quickly feel overwhelming and like there’s too much going on in one space. Avoid using too much textured pieces and having too many fabric objects everywhere. Use blinds rather than curtains where possible, and don’t have too many cushions (although a couple is absolutely fine!)

Keep furniture to a minimum
While furniture is often a great way to decorate and accessorise, in small spaces it can quickly become far too much and overwhelm the space completely. We recommend keeping furniture in small spaces to a minimum and being clever with your storage options to help you enjoy the space you have. Of course if you subscribe to the minimalist way of life, you might not have a lot of stuff that needs storing anyway – a tiny home is perfect for you!

Keep it open!
As well as not overwhelming your space with furniture, we recommend keeping what you do have open feeling. Try to avoid having the back of the sofa as a focal point in your room, if possible avoid directing all furniture at your television (if you have one) and try and keep as much space between your pieces of furniture as possible to enable your room to feel open and free.
