Creating More Space in Your Home

There's more competition than ever before for the best properties, so it's no wonder that more and more of us are finding ourselves having to compromise in order to get a property that we enjoy. One of the main compromises that people are finding themselves having to make is on space - whether it's the number of rooms in the property, the size of your garden of the amount of storage space you have. Of course, there are people moving into smaller homes just because they want to, and this post is for you all, too!

Of course, there are people moving into smaller homes just because they want to, and this post is for you all, too!

If you’ve been struggling to come up with ways to create more space in your home, then just keep on reading for some ideas.

Creating More Space in your Home

Get rid of unnecessary belongings

Most space problems are actually just down to having too much stuff. We all accumulate things we don’t really need that then just sit and take up space, still not getting used. If you want to feel like you’ve got more space in your home, then start by going through the things you own and getting rid of anything that doesn’t get used, won’t be used any time soon, or that you don’t really like. You’ll be amazed by just how much more space this gives you.

Get creative with your storage options

Using vacuum bags to store bed linen, extra curtains and unseasonal clothing is a good way to be able to store things you need without taking up a huge amount of cupboard space; building shelves into empty cupboards (such as those under staircases) can give you extra shelving space that you probably really need, and be taking care of affordably. Going digital with your media and entertainment will free up extra space when you recycle or sell your DVDs, CDs and other items – have a good think about where you can scale things back, and store things differently.

Invest in extensions

Up to now we’ve mostly been talking about creating the illusion of extra space in your home, but if you own your property and are both willing and able to invest some cash into it, you could add an extension to your home. This will both increase the amount of space you have, and also increase the value of your home – a worthwhile investment if you think you’re likely to sell your property in the future.
