We deal with property each and everyday, so we know that a house isn’t automatically a home to anyone. When it comes to making your home a bit more personal, and making it feel fully like your very own home, choosing your own decor and colour scheme is incredibly important.

Today we’re going to talk about how to choose a colour scheme for your home to help you love each and every room.

Choosing a Colour Scheme for your Home

Figure out what you’re going to use each room for
The use of the room will largely dictate how you’re going to decorate it. For example if you want a room that you need to feel  energised and happy in, you’ll probably want to use brighter colours. If you want to feel calmer and more relaxed in a certain room, you’ll want to use calmer colours that are softer in nature… this sort of thing will help figure out what colours to use.

Consider a feature wall
If you’re going to be having a feature wall in your room, this will impact whether you’ll want brighter colours, or softer colours in the room. A brighter feature wall will require softer colours to help it feel properly balanced.

Think about the colours you actually like
There’s no point focusing on purely feng shui when it comes to choosing your colour scheme, you need to make sure you’re using colours that you actually like, or what’s the point? Of course if your favourite colour is black, it’s going to be pretty hard to work that into your main colour scheme (but accessories are definitely your friend in this case!) but softer colours and tones are always a good bet.

Consider durability
If you’ve got children then the durability of the colours and paint that you choose has to be considered. Choose colours that are easy to clean and repaint if needs be, and a type of paint that you can give a wipe down to clean up should you need to. These paints tend to be a little more expensive, but they’re well worth it in the long run.

You’ll have to be more careful when it comes to wallpaper, however, which tends to be infinitely more fragile. Wallpaper is best saved for feature walls and rooms that won’t have too much chaos going on!
